In the world of search engine optimization there is not a lot of instantly verifiable information. For most of us, this is a really good thing. Why? Because if all it took was one link, one message or one of any test to verify the effects of search engine rankings for any URL then everyone would be doing the exact same thing and whoever could mass produce results, usually those with tons of capital, would be at the very top of all the results. The thing is most of us went into internet marketing because we wanted to make more money. We did not have any real capital to invest and most internet marketers still do not.

Although there is a ton of misinformation, there are some time-tested steps that everyone needs to take to make sure that all of their SEO promotion gets the support that it needs. Specifically, setting the meta tags. Of course, if you do not own your own domains and you are simply building pages on various web properties this is sometimes more difficult to do. In some cases, these sites only allow you to make changes to the html with the BODY tag. Do not worry if this is the case for you though, these sites generally know the importance of META "description" and other tags so there will be a way to place your keywords where you need to.

A simple way to check to see if your page has your keywords in the META "description" is to view the page source code. This is how the tag should look:

<meta name="description" content="YOUR KEYWORDS AND EVEN A BRIEF DESCRIPTION IF YOU WANT TO"/>

No, this is not everything you need to do to ensure top rankings but it is one of the core elements. If you have your keywords in the tag above you will have a better chance of ranking for that keyword than anyone who does not and you will finally be on the same playing field as everyone who does.
